Jersey has a vibrant creative community. Established in the 1970’s, this steadily growing business sector now comprises over 30 advertising, marketing and public relations agencies who provide a range of professional services to local, national and international companies and organisations.

This community provides expertise in communications strategy and campaign planning, branding, public relations, market research and design for advertising, print and the internet. These disciplines are often combined to offer clients a fully integrated approach.

After decades of experience promoting Jersey’s strengths in finance, tourism and agriculture, our Island’s designers and marketers are able to offer levels of expertise in these niche areas on a par with those available anywhere. Unfortunately, despite the industry’s expertise in promoting others, many people simply do not realise the breadth and depth of marketing skills available locally. For this reason many projects continue to be briefed to agencies outside the Island.

For some time, senior members of Jersey's design and marketing industry have been considering how to raise the profile of agency services in the Island. The recent controversy over the new Jersey logo has presented them an opportunity to do exactly that...

The 'golden bird' logo and 'Life enriching' strapline have been approved by the Council of Ministers and will be used as part of a wider campaign to promote the Island. It is not the purpose of this exhibition to provide a replacement for the new logo, rather it is an opportunity to showcase local design skills using an appropriately topical theme.

This exhibition is unusual for a number of reasons. It is unusual for any advertising agency to show its work in an exhibition format. It is unusual, indeed unprecedented locally, for a number of agencies to work together on a project such as this. More importantly, it is unusual for any of the companies represented here to present logo designs in isolation. That is to say, without demonstrating how those designs will work in context. Logo design is a very small part of the branding process. The greater part of the work goes into understanding what is unique and special about a particular company, service or product, then developing strategies to promote it. The understanding gained during this process is then distilled down to a core thought, which is then used to develop elements like the logo and strapline.
