Local school reaches regional final of national challenge
Media students from Hautlieu's sixth form have reached the final
of a national competition, the BIMA School's Digital Challenge.
Established in 1985, BIMA (the British Interactive Media
Association), is the trade association which represents the UK
interactive industry. The school's digital challenge is an
annual competition held whereby schools need to come up with a
'digital solution' to provide a practical benefit for their school
group or community.
Students from Hautlieu, supported by recently formed industry
association Creative Jersey, have developed a project based around
the memories of the occupation of the Islands. Members of creative
Jersey have supported the project from the planning thought
to the final artwork and web design,
The eventual outcome will be a permanent on line archive
of Occupation memories that will be added to buy successive year
groups at Hautlieu , and be a learning resource for students
produced by students.
Having started the process in January of this year with their
outline ideas they were subsequently shortlisted and have just
submitted their completed entry for judging on the 12 June.
If successful the local students will attend an awards ceremony in
London on 12 July.
Commenting on the students' success, Education Liaison Officer
for Creative Jersey, Gary Grimshaw said:
"We are delighted that the students from Hautlieu have not only
grasped this challenge with such creative, enthusiasm and
commitment, but that they have produced such inspiring work which
has resulted in their being shortlisted for this national
competition. That in itself is an accolade. We are
anxiously awaiting the results but irrespective of the final
outcome, this demonstrates the creative talent which exists in the
Island, and we hope for future competitions, to be able to role the
initiative out to involve all Island secondary schools".
